What are functional movements?
Squatting
Running
Jumping
Throwing
Pulling
Lifting things up
These are all functional movements.
They weren’t invented. These movements occur naturally and you’ve been doing them whether you’ve set foot in a gym or not.
CrossFit uses these movements because they are so effective at preparing you for life outside of the gym.
Why should you train them?
These are movements you’ll encounter in everyday life. So in training functional movements you’ll see increased mobility, improved balance and posture, and a reduced risk of injury.
Functional movements train your muscles to work together and prepares them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work, or in sports.
