Roberto Felipe... "I still have a hard time believing what happened"

Published April 10, 2017

Roberto is one of the nicest people around and he's a very attentive athlete who is ready to improve, hear about his CrossFit story... in his own words!

"Growing up, I was always the person who only became active during the warmer months of the year. Mostly throughout my baseball season which started from April to June. After I graduated college, I found myself becoming even less active and not having the motivation to continue on working out on my own. I saw Crossfit Jungle Gym as an opportunity to make a change in my life, take on a new challenge, become motivated and bring back the feeling of being active again. Which it has!

After doing a couple of WODs, I thought to myself, "Man, I can't even keep up with majority of the class." Despite my struggles and failures, the coaches and members at the gym were always there to cheer me on. This allowed me to take a step back and realize I needed to focus on myself and be patience. It's the great coaching and support that has made my experience so far fun and feel like I am part of the team.

Earlier this week, I managed to deadlift 315LB. Prior to that, my 1RM was at 225LB during the Crossfit Open in 17.4. I give all of the credit to coach Brian and the rest of the members at the gym who encouraged me to give it a try.

Overall, I want to continue on learning and getting better with every workout but there is one goal I would like to check off my bucket list. Either a bar muscle up or a ring muscle up. I am looking forward to the day of being able to smile from up top! (CHECK OUT ROBERTO'S FIRST MUSCLE UP 7/19/17)

Reflecting back, I would have to say 17.5 at the CrossFit Open was one memory I still have a hard time believing what happened to this day. Somehow, I managed to do 22 consecutive double unders as I was approaching the last couple of minutes of the 40 minute cap workout. Prior to that, my max was 5 double unders in a row. The atmosphere and support throughout the whole Crossfit Open is what really motivated me to push through it and to believe in myself. Thank you CFJG community!
