What is the Intramural Open
The intramural open is the most highly anticipated and participated time of the year at CFJG. It runs concurrently with The CrossFit Games Open in which over the course of 3 weeks you’ll complete 3 workouts. Our intramural twist is to increase participation, fun and camaraderie within the gym. The IO consists of 3 teams participating for maximum points over the course of the 3 weeks of the open plus 1 bonus event the week before the Open, and another after the 3 weeks of the Open for a total of 5 weeks. So, lets walk through how the Intramural Open season works.
CAPTAIN SELECTION: JAN 3-JAN 20
3 captains will be selected: 1 captain will be from the returning champions Chalk It Up Buttercup (David Rodriguez and Laura Brock). The other 2 captains will be selected from nominations based on their representation of CFJG core values. Captains will be selected by January 20. Captains are responsible for participating in the draft, operating their team’s private FB group, collect money for team uniforms, coordinating score submissions, coming up with team name/logo (by Jan 27) and leading their team towards greatness! Captains will submit uniform money and team members shirt sizes by February 7th for order. Want to nominate a captain? Send the name of your nomination and brief description why to [email protected] ASAP.
DRAFT DAY FEBRUARY 3RD
The Draft will be held Thursday February 3rd at 7:15pm. Captains will make their team selections based from the pool of athletes that have memberships taking monthly classes. If other members wish to be part of the draft they can be just by signing up for the Open. The draft is open to the public for viewing pleasure at CFJG or by FB live from home on our Members only page! Captains will select draft order via a workout between all 3 captains/co-captains. The winner of the workout gets to choose their preferred draft spot as well as earn the first points of the Intramural Open, then 2nd and 3rd, then we will proceed into the draft as follows:
Round 1: 1-2-3
Round 2: 3-2-1
Round 3: 1-2-3 Random Draw
Round 4: 3-2-1 Random Draw
Round 5: 1-2-3
Round 6: 3-2-1
Round 7: 1-2-3 Random Draw
Round 8: 3-2-1 Random Draw
Round 9 (same as 1)… until all the draft eligible athletes have been selected. All CFJG monthly members will be eligible for the draft, even if you have not yet registered.
PRE-OPEN: UPON COMPLETION OF THE DRAFT-FEBRUARY 3
All other members of CFJG who are not monthly class members at the time of the draft will be placed onto teams in order once they sign up for the Open. Also, any new members that join will be able to join the open and placed onto a team. In order for any member to be placed on a team, they must be officially registered for The Open, join CFJG team and affiliate. Once a new athlete joins, they will be added to the next team from the draft order. The Open coordinator will make all captains aware of each new athlete and the team they join.
Open February 17 – March 19
This is where the participation begins! Each Thursday at 3pm EST The Open workout will be announced (the first Intramural workout will be announced on Feb 17 at 715PM) and is to be completed by the submission deadline the following Monday. Every athlete can earn their team points by completing the workout AND submitting their score by the Monday deadline. Athletes can also earn their team points by taking a position in Men’s RX, Women’s RX, Men’s Scaled, Women’s Scaled, Men’s Foundations or Women’s Foundations. (Coaches are ineligible for points, but can take a spot and those points). Additional points will be available each week for Thursday Night Throwdowns, as well as other weekly “Team Events”. There will be an updated team standing after each week’s scores are submitted.
Bonus Event 5
Will be announced on Thursday March 17 at 7pm and will be completed by each team on Saturday March 19th at 9am.
POST OPEN: APRIL 9TH
After The Open is complete and the champions declared we will host an Awards ceremony in honor of the new Intramural Champions, the Cup, Banner, and Championship medals are to be awarded then. Food will be provided after a WOD created by the champions. The awards banquet will be Saturday April 9th at 9am.
Points and Scoring
Updated standings will be announced at 3pm Wednesday in the CFJG Members Only Group.
Individual points – Points will be given in each division, Men’s RX, Women’s RX, Men’s Scaled, Women’s Scaled, Men’s Foundation, and Women’s Foundation. Based on how many athletes are in each division will dictate those points. For example if we have 10 Women do a workout RX’d and 15 go scaled, the top spot in the RX division will earn 10 points, and the top in scaled will earn 15 points. Each place moving down will earn 1 less point. Coaches can’t score any points however can act as “spoilers” as they can take away a spot from someone and those points. Determination of RX, scaled, and foundations will be up to coaches and use of the Level Method to determine where you are at. Any scaled athlete can move up to RX to challenge themselves, but an RX can’t move down to scaled, just to dominate. Any injured athletes can go scaled, per coaching staff.
Team points this will be broken down via total members participating, 100% for first, 60% 2nd and 30% for 3rd.. So if 50 members are in the open, 50 for first, 30 for 2nd, and 15 for 3rd. Final weekly scores will be tabulated and announced Wednesday at 3PM.
When to complete the WOD:
Each Friday during The Open the class WOD will be The Open WOD. So, you may attend class as normal and participate then at 5am, 6am, 730am, or at Friday Night Lights, which will start at 5PM. More to come on how Friday Nights will run.
On Saturday you will have the opportunity to complete the WOD during the 8am, or 9:30am, classes. Your last chance to complete the WOD will be during the 8am open gym on Sunday.
If you can’t make the times listed above we will make our best effort to allow you the space to complete the WOD during our normal operating hours on Monday. You will need to make arrangements with Coach James to ensure we have space, and you will need to provide your own judge. Please realize this will be extremely limited so do your best to get the WOD in Friday, Saturday or Sunday. You will have one other option this year, Thursday night at 7PM. While we’ll have TNT and head to head competition you can get your workout in as well during that time. If you wish to do this you need to make arrangements with Coach James ahead of time.
